Next Thing You Know 5/1/15

Most of us have been through it. You work a night job while working a day temp job, waiting for a promotion so you can afford to work only one job. You are young. You have dreams. You, well, you make connections with people in your life. Even if it is tending bar.

People have different needs, wants, desires. We want the best for us. We are willing to wait. Well most of the time we are willing. Some people want to advance and to perhaps keep climbing. Others want to settle down. Have a meaningful relationship to help balance their journey. When the two get together they may not necessarily stay together. Especially if only one is wanting to take it to the next level.

Myself, part of growing up is falling into and out of relationships. We learn who we are, what we want and when we want. Sometimes you feel there is something better out there for you. I know I had. You hold onto that feeling. When a relationship breaks apart, you move on. Then you feel something missing. You feel some regrets. You still choose to make the best of it, even when not in a relationship. After all, you still have needs.

Then you cross paths again, as in mine, and other cases. You remember remembering about the other person. Feelings come out. You want to catch the other person up with your life, and to impress upon them that things are good now. But they are not. The next thing you know . . .

This musical is by songwriters Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham. The Towle Theater cast was again superb. Their voice, acting, made this musical connect to what I believe are common feelings that unconsciously help us develop. Am I giving in for the right reasons? Or am I just settling until the next better thing happens?

What happens when the one you care about drifts away? You rationalize and do something to bring the person closer. Luke was wanting more out of the relationship. He rationalized that if Waverly does not like his smoking, then he would stop smoking. That would help her to commit to the relationship! Ha, wrong.

White Ripple Gallery 4/11/15

June 1, 2014, Hammond IN had their annual art walk. White Ripple Gallery was on the walk, and this was the first time I had heard of them. I did not make it there that day.  Today I made it there, because of my friends Diana and Sophia.

The gallery is cool. Multi-level. A large area on the main floor is set aside for exhibiting artists (like my friend Diana and some other upcoming friends of mine who will exhibit). This main floor, and the other floors, have been divided for studio artists too. Artists wanting permanent space to create, display, and sell their art. An all in one package if you will. My friend Sophia is the latest of these artists to obtain space there on the 3rd floow.

Here are some photos of the venue, and the 2nd Friday event that is open in the evening to the public every month.

Please go see Diana's work in the exhibit until April 30th. You can also see Diana's work at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago.  (Every 3rd Friday is the Zhou B Art Center opening to the public.)

Go see Sophia's work on the third floor anytime. You can also see her work at Paul Henry's Art Gallery in Hammond.

Brabant Lenting 4/3/15

It took me a long time to get out to Michigan City to see my friend Brabant. A bit embarrassing because he is a friend. Very delightful because it was a wonderful experience.

It is always nice going to places to see friends. You are likely to run into other friends. Below are photos of Native American Flute player John Sarantos.
